Our Emissions Management team's loss is everyone’s gain

As SaskEnergy works toward the goal of reducing emissions by 35 per cent by 2030, our Emissions Management team is leading the charge. A small but mighty team of four employees, all of their work hinges on SaskEnergy’s environmental regulatory compliance requirements and voluntary commitments related to emissions reduction. This team is also responsible for capital projects connected to SaskEnergy’s Roadmap to 35 per cent by 2030, and provides project support for emissions requirements at new or upgraded facilities. In this capacity, they work with teams across the company — from engineers to...

Our Roadmap to 35% by 2030

Reducing our emissions from operations by 35% by 2030 In 2020-21, we set a target to reduce our emissions from operations by 35 per cent, from 2019 levels, by 2030. SaskEnergy’s operational emissions include those from our natural gas system as well as company-owned vehicles, and emissions related to heating and powering our offices and facilities. We are now halfway toward achieving this goal. Our roadmap SaskEnergy has three priority areas to align projects and activities that address our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. 1. Vent gas reduction About 25 per cent of SaskEnergy’s emissions come...

Our system is 99.99 reliable — here’s how

When you turn up your thermostat or fire up your gas stove to cook supper, you might wonder about the energy source behind these simple tasks. SaskEnergy’s natural gas system spans across Saskatchewan. We serve about 411,000 customers through more than 72,000 kilometres of distribution gas lines. We work hard to maintain a system that’s more than 99.99 per cent reliable. That means you can count on us year-round, whether for heating your home during the coldest of winter days or heating your pool during those beautiful summer nights! At SaskEnergy, we invest about $100 million per year on...

Our Weyburn employees are committed to their community

SaskEnergy’s team in Weyburn has repeatedly shown that they are a generous and hardworking bunch! Most recently, they raised more than $6,000 for the local United Way Communithon held October 28. “My co-workers are always up for the challenge, and I am constantly impressed by their effort and hard work to give back to the community we live in,” says Weyburn employee Michell Giroux. To prepare for this annual telethon, the Weyburn team organized and held two special fundraising events. In June, a garage and bake sale in the SaskEnergy parking lot raised close to $1,600, and items that didn’t...

Panel recommends overall decrease in SaskEnergy rates and change to billing based on Heat Value

The Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel (the Panel) has recommended an overall decrease in energy bills for SaskEnergy customers. On average, residential customers would see their bills decrease by approximately $2 per month, or $28 annually. If approved by Cabinet the rate changes will take effect November 1, 2016. SaskEnergy’s rate application proposed a 14% DECREASE to the overall commodity rate, combined with an 8.6% INCREASE in the delivery rate. The combined effect of these changes would be an average reduction of approximately 3% for an average residential customer. In its application...

Planning a Dig Project

Follow a safe work plan Planning ahead is the first step to ensuring a successful outdoor project. Understanding the work area and the location of underground utility lines can save you time, money and help you avoid a dangerous situation. It’s your responsibility to ensure you are not digging or encroaching on natural gas facilities. Hitting a natural gas line, or creating an obstruction that doesn’t allow us to quickly access the gas line, can put you and your community at serious risk. Steps to Follow 1. Mark the Area Mark your project area with white flags, paint, chalk or surveyors tape...

SaskEnergy employees Brittany Kelm, Jamie Kilkenny and Dana Kostyk — all who work in engineering and technology roles — are leading the program. The goal of...
